While introducing Krishna, Prabhupada naturally felt the need to inform people of Krishna’s latest incarnation. If getting people to accept Krishna as the Supreme Personality of Godhead” was not enough of a challenge, Srila Prabhupada also wanted to convince them that Krishna was present on earth a mere five centuries ago – as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. Disguised as a devotee, Krishna taught and demonstrated how to develop pure love for Himself. In India, to this day, Lord Krishna is widely accepted as God, but His appearance in Bengal as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu is not well known or acknowledged. A main reason for this is that, because He descended to experience the exquisite spiritual taste of being a devotee of Himself, He generally did not reveal His identity as Lord Krishna. And although, like any avatar of Krishna, He is mentioned in the Vedic scriptures, the evidence there tends to be sporadic. In this issue, which coincides with the anniversary of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu’s appearance, Satyaraja Dasa discusses one particular reference to Lord Chaitanya, found in the well-known epic the Mahabharata .
